Looking for Youtube Vanced Alternative? If you weren’t too fond of the official YouTube app, there were many alternatives at your disposal. One of them was YouTube Vanced a modded version of the original app that added features like ad blocking, background playback, and many more without charging users like YouTube’s Premium tier.
Why the Best Alternatives for YouTube Vanced
We even put it on our list of the best YouTube Vanced alternative apps you can get. It further gained popularity by bringing back dislike counts in videos just as Google removed them from their service. Note that we’ve been telling you about the mod in the past tense. That’s because we’re here to mourn the passing of YouTube Vanced.
The folks behind the project announced Sunday in the app’s official Telegram channel and on the Vanced Twitter account that it will be discontinued. No clear reason was given as to why it was killed off, so we can only speculate — but it’s likely due to Google’s legal department taking notice of Vanced.
The tech giant has been cracking down on unauthorized clients lately, such as a pair of popular Discord bots for listening to music on a server, Groovy and Rythm. Those were taken down after YouTube sent cease and desist letters to the developers. It’s not much of a leap to imagine something similar happened here.
The convenience of YouTube Vanced earned some passionate backers. The app unlocked or circumvented many Premium features like background playback and ad blocking, and it added features YouTube didn’t like at all, like those pesky dislike counters. Recently, the app had even rebranded to change its name to just “Vanced,” and it removed most mentions of YouTube from its website — possibly an attempt to avert legal drama with Google.
Best Vanced replacements
Vanced was never the only alternative YouTube app. Others include open-source NewPipe, which is more lightweight than the official app. But YouTube Vanced had a huge user base, and we’ll miss it. It won’t be updated anymore, but you can still get the last version. Do it quickly, though — the download links will soon be gone.
Because of all of the benefits of Vanced, we put together a list of the best alternatives to prepare you for whenever Vanced stops working. These are some of the best alternatives with all of the features that you know and love so that you’re not missing out. They’re likely not going to be perfect Vanced replacements, but they’ll certainly get very close.
Buy YouTube Premium
Honestly, the problem with apps like these is that they will always be playing a cat and mouse game. If Google is really going after YouTube alternatives, then it’s going to be sooner rather than later that these apps are whittled down one by one. Cutting to the chase and paying for YouTube Premium will net you 90% of the features that are offered here anyway, and you’ll get the added benefit of supporting your favorite creators.
If you used to watch videos in Vanced and didn’t have a YouTube Premium subscription, then the creators earned no money from your view. With YouTube Premium, you’ll get most of the features you miss, and you keep the lights and heating on for your favorite content creators. Sounds like a win-win, right?
If you’ve decided to just pay up, you can get a YouTube Premium subscription starting at 6.99 euro per month, but you can pay less by opting for an Annual plan, a student plan, or a family plan.
Now, if you are someone that uses an iOS device, or for that matter has an older iOS device lying around, you can still take advantage of the modded version of YouTube, called YouTube ++. Now, this app can be installed from TweakBox or Altstore a third-party app store that lets you install and download apps that aren’t available on the Apple App Store. YouTube ++ has all the best features such as the ability to play your videos in the background, download them, and best of all get rid of all sorts of advertisements.
Use Ad Blockers with Microsoft Edge on PC
Web browsers on PC such as Microsoft Edge, lets you install ad blockers on its web browser. So, that is the best way to be able to enjoy YouTube without any of the ads. Even other web browsers have various settings such as disabling trackers and even turning off advertisements on websites. Of course, it’s not the best solution to replace Vanced, but something is better than nothing in the end.
SkyTube is yet another open-source third-party client for YouTube. The Android application is available via its own website and via F-Droid.
Like NewPipe, it is adding features that many users would call essential to the YouTube experience on Android. Videos play without advertisement and the option to download content is also provided. The app offers a view experience only, which means that it does not support signing in to a YouTube account. Still, features such as channel subscriptions, bookmarks, or reading comments are all supported by it.
Do you want to watch some video and not award 1 extra view (or 100 extra views, if you like to loop stuff) to its youtube stats? Do you want to stay incognito and still browse youtube? Well, you’re right, the browser’s CTRL+SHIFT+N – incognito mode – can help stay unnoticed. But video watching will be reported to youtube stats counters, can’t avoid that.
So here comes hooktube.com, a site that shadows your video streaming. It fetches up the page from youtube for you, it then extracts the video stream and uses native HTML5 browser <video> tag to create a video viewer on that extracted stream. So you end up accessing a file online, thus youtube cannot track you (unless they have overly sophisticated procedures that track access to files, which is not really a manageable statistic).
What is FreeTube?
FreeTube is a YouTube client for Windows, Mac, and Linux built around using YouTube more privately. You can enjoy your favorite content and creators without your habits being tracked. All of your user data is stored locally and never sent or published to the internet.
FreeTube grabs data by scraping the information it needs (with either local methods or by optionally utilizing the Invidious API). With many features similar to YouTube, FreeTube has become one of the best methods to watch YouTube privately on a desktop.

NewPipe (Editor’s Choice)
NewPipe is one of the popular ad-free YouTube apps available on Android. This app is open-source, free-to-use, and comes with all the features that the official YouTube app supports (and some more as well). What’s more interesting is that this app doesn’t use Google’s proprietary APIs to display content. Instead, it parses the normal YouTube mobile website to stream videos and block ads on the go.
NewPipe offers many features that YouTube Premium comes with: background playback, ad-free streaming, picture-in-picture mode, video downloading, and much more. However, there are two main issues with the app.
First, the app doesn’t offer a YouTube-like UI so you’ll have to get settled with the new design if you want to use ad-free YouTube. Second, since there is no support for Google services, the app doesn’t sync with YouTube servers so you won’t be able to continue watching the video (from the point where you left it on the app) on your PC.
